-This wiki is a repository of information regarding the **Qortal Project**. Qortal is not only infrastructure for a decentralized, censorship-free Internet… it is an entire decentralized operating system where essentially any ethical project/application can be built securely! This includes peer-to-peer (P2P) solutions like our Trade Portal and Q-Chat, where there is no middleman to intercept a transaction. Be sure to check the Wiki Site Updates page for updates on the latest changes here.+=====Welcome To the Qortal Wiki=====

-Qortal has now launched its '**Q-Apps**functionality, making it possible for **anyone** to **build and publish unstoppable applications** on **Qortal's infrastructure**! This is a huge step forward for the projectand is essentially the primary component of the platform overall. With Q-Appseverything you use your computer for on regular basiscan now be **rebuilt on Qortal** removing the need for centralized service providers, unnecessary rental fees, and middlemen of all kinds.+=== NEW Minting Methods ===
 +Qortal no longer utilizes 'sponsorshipin order to obtain minting rights on the network. A new system, 'mintership', is now utilized. A community-elected group of users from all over the worldnow utilize group_approval transactions to 'vote in' new minteror to delegate minting rights to any account

-With the launch of Q-Apps, Qortal has also launched a  Q-Apps Discord Server (https://discord.gg/frffAJsgY4) (until Q-Chat database and protocol are built, and all main Qortal communications can be moved there.) If you are either a developeror someone interested in learning how to build Q-Appscheck out the new Q-Apps Discord server.+In order to obtain rights:
 +  * access the new 'Q-Mintership' Q-App This app is where minting rights and the votes required to obtain them, are obtained by users.
 +  * Access the 'MinterBoard' - The MinterBoard is the location for accounts to obtain minting rights.
 +  * Publish a 'card' - A card with information about yourself, and links to things you have done, published to QDN, are added to the card.
 +  * Obtain community and Minter Admin votes - Once you have obtained at least 40% of the Minter Admins' votesactions will be displayed to the admins, allowing them to issue the GROUP_APPROVAL transaction required to invite your account to the MINTER group.
 +  * Join the MINTER group Once your card has been invitedcome back to the MinterBoard, and your card will be labeled as such, and provide you with a 'JOIN GROUP' button. Click that button and await transaction confirmation.
 +  * Create your Minting Key There are multiple ways to do this, easiest of which being the 'Start Minting' button in one of the Qortal Interfaces.

-Qortal's coin is called **QORT.** QORT is mined in our system known as ‘minting’ (not Proof of ___). We do not minewe MINT! QORT is  used to power on-chain services and can also be used as a digital form of payment for the new web built on Qortal’s infrastructureQORT is meant only for Qortal so there are not any plans to list on other exchanges.+The information here is likely a bit behind, as development of the project is moving a lot more quickly than the subsequent documentation process. As of Feb 2025, Qortal has implemented a completely different method of becoming a minter, and multiple new interfaces have been created for accessing the platform.
 +
 +==== New Qortal Interfaces ====
 +See https://qortal.dev for more information on the new Qortal interfaces. There are now 4 (four) primary interfaces for accessing the Qortal network. Those interfaces are:
 +
 +===Qortal Hub===
 +Qortal hub is the newest interface for Qortal, it is a desktop version of the new 'Qortal Trifecta' releases. Qortal Hub is available for **Linux (x86/64 and ARM), and Windows right now, and a Mac version will be coming soon**. (Until the Mac version is released, you may utilize the 'Qortal Extension' and a chromium based browser to experience a similar feel to Qortal Hub, with the same look/functionality on Mac.
 +
 +===Qortal Go===
 +Qortal Go is an **android release** of the Qortal Trifecta series of interfaces, and can be obtained from the Qortal primary Github. HERE. Note - it is unlikely for the Qortal Go app to be released on the Google Play store, due to the ridiculous policies for apps there. It is also unlikely for there ever to be an iOS release of this app, as iOS and Apple fully lock down their devices, forcing developers to list them on their app store, and also forcing them into ridiculous agreements, especially having to do with apps that leverage encrypted data.
 +
 +===Qortal Extension===
 +The Qortal Extension is a **chromium-based browser-extension** version of the Qortal Trifecta series of interfaces. This extension allows installaion on any chromium-based browser (Chromium, Chrome, Brave, Opera, etc...) as well as potential for authentication and interactivity between Qortal and 'web 2' applications.
 +
 +===NOTE about new interfaces===
 +**NONE of the new interfaces above require the use of a full node**, like the 'Qortal UI' (or what is being referred to as the 'legacy UI' does. However, utilizing a full node is possible and still the recommended method of accessing the Qortal Network. Not requiring the use of a full node, allows users to get started 'immediately' without having to install and run a node. This allows easier access to Qortal, and allows users with less proficient technical skills to utilize the network without having to run multiple setups, no matter how simple those setups may be.
 +
 +==Qortal UI (Legacy UI)==
 +The 'legacy UI' for QortalWhile still being developed nowit is planned to be no longer developed as soon as possible, and while it may still be maintained to a certain degree, new features and functionality are not likely to be added to the legacy Qortal UI. **It is highly recommended for users to obtain one of the newer interfaces above, and start making use of them and getting used to them, as eventually the legacy UI will no longer be developed at all.** For now, however, it still is, and recent release allows the VIEWING of encrypted messages sent by Hub/Go/Ext, but not yet the ability to SEND encrypted messages. Replies sent with this UI in Q-Chat, are not yet encrypted. The new group encryption functionality for Q-Chat WILL be getting added to the legacy UI in the near future, however, this is likely to be one of the last updates for this interface, as it is slowly phased out as the primary UI.
 +
 +Qortal Hub/Go/Ext all have new group-encryption for Q-Chat, and leverage many new communications features. They are much more responsive interfaces that allow access to Qortal without requiring the user run a node. There ARE a few features that do not yet exist in the new interfaces, and at the moment only dark mode exists for themes. But over time the missing functionality will be added, and the legacy UI will be moved to full legacy and no longer actively developed.
 +
 +This wiki will be getting updated more as time goes on, but right now the majority of the information here is outdated in regard to not showing how to leverage functionality in the newer interfaces, and display of outdated methods no longer utilized. Development pace of the project is extremely fast, and updating documentation has fallen a bit behind. For the latest information it is recommended to either communicate to the community within Qortal or one of its non-Qortal communication locationsThank you!
 +
 +
 +This wiki is a repository of information regarding the **Qortal Project**. Qortal is not only infrastructure for a decentralized, censorship-free Internet… it is essentially a decentralized 'operating system' where virtually any project/application can be built securely. This includes the 'default' peer-to-peer (P2P) solutions like the Trade Portal and Q-Chat, as well as now 'Q-Apps' that can be built by any Qortal user with a registered name. In every case, the same underlying functionality applies...No middlemen of any kind, no servers, no DNS, and data stored on the decentralized/distributed/encrypted/chunked Qortal Data Network (QDN). Be sure to check the Wiki Site Updates page for updates on the latest changes to this Wiki, and enjoy your research on The Qortal Project!
 +
 +Qortal has progressed so quickly it is extremely difficult to keep this wiki updated as fast as the changes are made.
 +
 +Please note that MANY of the links and much of the information on this wiki will be OUTDATED.

 +
 +Please note - As of October 20th 2024 - Qortal no longer utilizes 'Sponsorship' in order to start minting. A new system that is based on group_approval issued from a select group of community-elected 'minter admins' will be what enables/disables minter status for any account. This process will be further documented in the future, and right now is still in progress with full implementation. Sponsorship was removed due to the obvious (and only) 'game' that could be played against it, called 'self-sponsorship' (creating a new minting account for yourself instead of someone else. The dev group has been aware of this obvious game since Genesis, however it was not expected to be taken advantage of so early on in the project's historyAs such, we were greatly disappointed when it was anyway from those that were rescued from the dead 'QORA' project. This change has dramatically changed the state of minting on Qortal, and changed the methods by which a new user will become a Qortal Minter. This is essentially a 'rebirth' of the project in many ways, and a purging of the old self-sponsors who were determined to cause the downfall of the project. Another win for Qortal, and loss for selfishness and greed. During this transition period this wiki will be INCORRECT in many ways, and as such it is highly suggested to join the community in one of the above-mentioned fashions, and ASK about the new methods and how to acquire minting status. This wiki will obtain the required updates as time goes on and the community and dev group have the time to make such updates. Thank you and here's to the future and re-birth of the Qortal project!

-Qortal is much more than another blockchain with a coin. Qortal is INFRASTRUCTURE with a focus on true decentralization (P2P)!+Qortal is much more than another blockchain with a coin. Qortal is INFRASTRUCTURE with a focus on true decentralization (P2P)! (The term decentralization has been over-used and bastardized in the 'blockchain space', especially within the last few years. Many of the so-called decentralized platforms have at least one if not multiple centralized components that are essential to their function. Qortal does not.) In Qortal, every user runs a node. (The term 'node' simply means a computer with the Qortal software installed on it.) Every user accesses Qortal's network from their own computer, without the need to reach out to any domain, server, or service provider. True decentralization insists upon this fact, and therefore it is the primary and only method that will be suggested by the Qortal developer group.

With merely a single registered name on Qortal, a user may create, launch, and host indefinitely their own application on QDN's distributed data network.

 +In a truly decentralized system such as Qortal, **you are the only one who has access to your account**, and unless you specifically share that access with another, **you are the only one who can get into the account**. There is **no such thing as 'forgot password' type 'account recovery' on Qortal.** It is each individual's responsibility to secure their own accounts against loss of access.
