Qortal is a completely community developed and supported project. With that said, it is still important that we have some sort of 'leadership' to help manage the development. Qortal will always produce truly decentralized features on-chain, and within Q-Apps. Anyone can get involved and work their way into the development group, and eventually even become a Dev Group Admin, by way of being 'voted in' from the community, demonstrating work, and ultimately having the final group_approval to become a dev admin. Below is a partial list of the community development and outreach leadership. Keep in the mind that we have help from people who want to remain anonymous (even regarding their screen names), and we respect that request by not mentioning them on this wiki. 

If you are interested in assisting Qortal in building the digital infrastructure of the future by becoming a member of the main developer group, join the community and start developing! You will get noticed and eventually get invited to the developer group if that is something that interests you.

Reaching out to crowetic, Qortal Seth, Justin, or Phillip are the best ways to state your intention to become part of the Qortal Developer group. 

===== Primary Qortal Developers =====
==== 'Qortal Development Group' ====

The 'Primary' developers define the role of developers working on the primary Qortal code repositories. (Namely the Qortal Core and the Qortal UI) These developers are the ones doing the majority of the 'heavy lifting' of the project. Primary developers can also include those working on Qortal-focused Q-Apps that are also part of the primary code repositories of the project.

**NOTE** - The names of the primary developers listed below are either **Registered Names** or if they are not, then the registered name is listed (in parenthesis). This is done so that on-chain identification is possible for users that wish to send Q-Mail messages, or donations directly to individuals assisting the project.

  * **crowetic** - Advice / Management / Core / Q-Apps - crowetic is the 'original founder' of Qortal, and functions as a 'manager' and source of information. He is also now doing active development on the Qortal Core (mostly releases and scripting/automation) and Q-Apps (Q-Mintership, Q-Assets,  and others.) 
  * **catbref** - Core / ATs - original lead core (built original qortal repo)
  * **kennycud** Java / Core - Lead core developer
  * **Ice** Java / Core / Q-Apps / Low-level - Ice is one of the Qortal founders and developers from the early days, now back with a vengeance in 2025 helping with many low-level development tasks, documentation, and more.
  * **Phillip (Phil)** - UI / Q-Apps - transitioning to lead UI / Qortal related Q-Apps

====3rd Party Developers====

These developer are referred to as '3rd party' because they are not working primarily on the main code repositories, but are working on Qortal-related software development. Their software is either closed or open source depending on their requirements, and they do not currently work directly on the fully open source Qortal platform.

There are 11 admins in the Dev Group (null counts as one). For a Core auto-update to be approved on chain, 40% of these admins (currently 5) are required to sign the transaction. The "null account" has no owner and cannot sign transactions.

===== Minter Admins =====
The Minter Admins are the group of active community members that were voted into the new paid role of Qortal that is responsible for approval and removal of minting rights on Qortal. 

The list of Minter Admins can be found within the 'Q-Mintership' app. 

The initial group of Minter Admins were voted in by the community at large, and are the FIRST group of Minter Admins to exist. As time goes on, more MINTER groups will be created, along with more groups of Minter Admins therein. 

The Minter Admins utilize GROUP_APPROVAL based transactions to approve joining the MINTER group, which delegates the accounts' ability to mint on Qortal.

===== Contributors and Development Facilitators =====

**crowetic:** crowetic (AKA Jason Crowe) is the original project founder, and is responsible for creation of the original Qortal Development Group, initial takeover of the dying QORA project, and laying the groundwork for what would ultimately become Qortal. The early days of the project required significant investment of time, money, and effort from crowetic. The original Qortal paper outlining the project, many of the base level concepts, and much of the overall Qortal model, (including the distribution model, rewards structure, and the addition of the 'leveling system' to the CIYAM minting concept, amongst others) were the work of crowetic. As of 2025 he is now functioning as an active code contributor for multiple Qortal repositories, and is the primary Qortal Core release facilitator. Crowetic Hardware Development, LLC, is crowetic's hardware company. The company, while not directly related to Qortal in any way, is built specifically with the goal of providing computers meant to run the Qortal Network, and has long-term goals of providing custom fully open source hardware to pair with the fully open source software of Qortal, creating the ultimate fully open ecosystem from the hardware level up. [[https://crowetic.com]],  the company website, is where you can find the 'QORTector' devices, Qortal-focused laptops, refurbished and upgraded computers, and various additional services. CHD also provides a 'development donation subscription' allowing the community to donate to Qortal Development in USD. **Qortal Seth:** Seth has been instrumental in facilitating new marketing initiatives, assisting with Q-App development, leading marketing and Q-App meetings, and more. Seth continues to be a fantastic addition to the Qortal Community and development group. Seth is a developer admin, and a Q-App developer, adding many new features to multiple Q-Apps, with a focus on Q-Tube. Seth is essentially always developing further features for existing, and concepts for new Q-Apps. 

**Justin:** Justin (AKA Justin Ferarri or Qortal Justin) has been instrumental in the development of [[https://qortal.dev]] as well as many other Qortal and Q-App related ventures and documentation. The primary public Q-App development documentation on Qortal.dev was the work of Justin with assistance from Phil.  Justin has recently (as of 2025) transitioned to a more outreach/marketing role, with a primary focus on extending and furthering the reach, foundational knowledge, and understanding of the project to the world at large. He has completed multiple outreach-focused videos, shorts, and informational videos highlighting Qortal functionality, comparisons, and details. He has also taken the lead in reaching out to various external organizations and making them aware of the project, and much more. He frequently leverages Q-Fund to engage the community and obtain their assistance in funding various Qortal expenditures to garner further reach and understanding.

**Phillip:** Phillip has developed more Q-Apps than anyone else, and is taking lead with Justin and Seth on the addition of new developers and teaching Q-App developers. Phillip is now also the primary developer for the 'Qortal Trifecta' series of interfaces, including Qortal Hub, Qortal Go, and the Qortal Chromium Extension. Phillip is an absolute master of Q-App development, and once mastering that he not only created a Q-App framework capable of assisting React developers in creating new Q-Apps, and capable of supporting additional JS/TS development frameworks, but he has now also contributed to the Qortal Core, jumping in and learning whenever needed, even if Java isn't a language he normally works with. Phillip is now an absolutely essential Qortal developer and probably has the most extensive understanding of building on top of Qortal beyond any other developer. 

===== Core Development Details =====

Qortal Core ((The Qortal Project consists of two 'main components'. The Qortal Core, which is the 'heart' of Qortal, the 'node' software, and where the Qortal API resides. The Qortal UI, Qortal Hub, Qortal Go, and the Qortal Chromium Extension, are all examples of various Qortal Interfaces, the interfaces communicate with the Qortal Core, allowing access to the chain, QDN, published data, etc. You may consider the interfaces 'Qortal Browsers' for the 'Internet of Qortal'. While the Qortal Core is the 'Qortal Router', or 'Network Access Point', allowing connectivity between nodes, submission and processing of transactions, facilitation of data management and publishing on the backend, etc.))

**catbref (INACTIVE):** original core developer who built the primary Qortal Core code repository. He worked alone for the years leading up to Genesis to the Trade Portal launch. You might say cat is 'the mind behind the original Qortal Core'. While he is still responsive to messages randomly, he is no longer actively developing for Qortal. 

**CalDescent (INACTIVE):** Cal is an incredibly talented developer who was essential in establishing the Qortal Core that exists today. He took over Qortal Core development after catbref was no longer able to work as often on the project, and has done an incredible amount of work on the Qortal Core. Primary QDN development and launch, along with many other aspects of the project, were initialized and completed in their initial versions by Cal. Cal was a key developer for the project, and still believes in the project's concepts and ideals, but isn't able to be active as of 2025.

**AlphaX (INACTIVE):** Was an early lead developer for the Qortal UI, and then jumped head first into Qortal Core development upon Cal's becoming less active, AlphaX was essential in the transition from the old methods to the new in regard to the Qortal Minting process, and the development of the previous Anti-Self-Sponsorship techniques prior to Mintership's implementation. Alpha is now considered a senior developer and has been active continually since joining the project, helping on both core and UI.

**kennycud:** is the current primary core developer as of 2025, and has provided extensive advancement of the overall core codebase, leading to the other devs coining the phrase 'optimized by Kenny TM' due to his numerous optimizations of the code. Kenny is always around assisting the community and maintaining the Qortal DevNet with crowetic. Kenny has now taken it upon himself to also initiate a Qortal Focused YouTube channel to assist in project reach and understanding, and is an overall Qortal Community badass.

**Ice:** is an extremely talented coder with mad organizational skills and low-level optimization and configuration expertise. He recently dramatically improved the setup for the core development environment, and made it possible to configure it with a single command. He also resolved issues with multiple core unit tests, and is assisting with management, organization, and documentation amongst many other things.

**crowetic:** has taken over the release process of the Qortal Core, and has dramatically optimized the process, improving the 'auto-update scripts' hugely, and removing the requirement that previously existed of an ubuntu 18 machine for running the old perl-based scripts. He also automated the release process, and improved the 'advanced installer' setup for the Windows Qortal Core installer.

**siddi:** has taken it upon himself to execute the awesome work of getting the reticulum protocol implemented into the Qortal Networking stack. ((The reticulum protocol is the Mesh Networking protocol that will allow not only rotating encryption on the connections between nodes, and the eventual removal of the requirement of IP addresses from node connections entirely, but it will eventually render ISPs (Internet Service Providers) completely unnecessary in regard to utilizing everything available on the Qortal Network. Learn more about Reticulum at https://reticulum.network)) Siddi has gotten the reticulum integration to a point of near-complete now as of May 2025, and will be facilitating further efforts here and testing initiation with the other Qortal Developers very soon.

===== User Interface (UI) Development Details =====
Qortal UI ((The Qortal UI was the original Qortal Interface developed and managed by the Qortal Development Group. The Qortal UI is being deprecated completely as of Qortal Core version 5.0 release, as it is no longer actively developed. Qortal Hub, Qortal Go, and the Qortal Chromium Browser Extension is taking the place of the Qortal UI completely, upon the Qortal Core 5.0 Release))

**AlphaX (INACTIVE):** AlphaX is working with Phil as lead UI development and is also the developer of https://explorer.qortalnodes.live - runs multiple qortal-related services, manages multiple qortal 'foreign coin' lite node servers, and much more. Alpha was instrumental in the expanding of the Qortal UI to where it is now.

**Phillip:** Phillip is the primary developer of Qortal Hub, Qortal Go, Qortal Extension, and many dramatic improvements to various portions of the old Qortal-UI. He is now the primary interface developer, with assistance from AlphaX. He is also the primary Q-App developer who built an entire Q-App framework for react.

**Justin:** Justin has also been helping with development of Q-Chat and is learning how to make promotional videos, he has developed extensive Q-App developer documentation, and assisted with a plethora of Q-App focused development. ( see [[https://qortal.dev]] )

**nicobenaz:** nico assisted with the creation of multi-language selection for Qortal Hub, as well as the theme options and many other contributions.

**proto (INACTIVE):** has assisted in multiple aspects of the Qortal UI, currently isn't very active but looks forward to getting back into Qortal UI development.

**Irontiga (INACTIVE):** Irontiga was the original Qortal UI developer, built the original Qortal UI application. Was one of the original primary developers of the project. Has been inactive for a few years.

**LOTW (INACTIVE):** LOTW helped build the basic level of the UI during the first 7 months post Genesis. Was instrumental in ensuring the Qortal UI development continued after the inactivity of irontiga. However, he has also been inactive in the project for a couple years.

===== Graphic Design =====

**T3Q (INACTIVE):** T3Q does graphic and video production work as a profession, and is the designer behind the original Qortal icon and logo as seen here on the wiki as well as the Qortal Concepts illustration. See [[Official Images/Press Kit]] for all of the images we have available.

**Scythian (INACTIVE):** Incredibly creative with her graphic design work. She has produced the images for the background versions, Official Coin, Minting & Leveling infographic, and Trade Portal infographic. She built the mock-up design for the dark mode UI version we see today, as well as basic UI concepts for Q-Blog and more.

**Sagi (INACTIVE):** Sagi has been helping with some graphic work for various Qortal-related projects and services.

**birtydastard:**  Has been helping with variations of the logo, GIFs, memes, and other fun things. 

===== Community Outreach and Advocates =====

**crowetic:** crowetic wrote the majority of the original paper for qortal prior to launch, built the original group of developers to have the project created, and took over the QORA project that was completely re-built and turned into qortal. crowetic has done countless [[interviews_podcasts|interviews that can be seen here]], and is always working on developing qortal in multiple ways.

**yopilax:** he has been actively involved in growing the community within Qortal’s and third party Discord servers. He can frequently be found in the voice channel in Discord. He has also played the role of hosting Qortal’s “Fireside Chat” podcast: [[Interviews/Podcasts]]. 

**Positeer:** he has been helping with social media marketing and funding campaigns for various marketing efforts!

**Lootz:** a pirate to the core, loves the qortal project and helps get the word out any way he can. Lootz believes that Qortal is essential to the future of a free and private world, and frequently calls Qortal the 'train tracks' of the future digital infrastructure.

**Phillip:** Phillip is always looking for ways to add additional developers and dev documentation to the project. Along with Justin and Seth. Phillip is also one of the primary Qortal-focused Q-App developers.

**Justin:** Justin has taken the lead on multiple marketing efforts and continues to this day to assist with Q-Apps, and adding and training new devs.

**Qortal Seth:** Seth has been instrumental lately in assisting the project overall, and managing multiple community meetings.

**WINNER:** he has played a monumental role in helping us build the base community with authentic sovereign-driven members by conducting podcasts/interviews on his Alfa Vedic platforms, guest speaking on third party platforms, and speaking in person at events where they discuss everything from holistic knowledge to blockchain technology. He has also helped with developing and hosting the new website!

===== 3D Printing =====

**FDM Dynamics:** co-owner of Crowetic Hardware Development and responsible for the 3D design and printing of the QORTector and QORTable cases at https://crowetic.com - FDM is an extremely talented 3D design and manufacturing professional who is constantly staying on top of the newest methods and technology in the 3D design space. He designed the QORTector Gen 2, QORTector-KB, and QORTable plastics, and is currently working on QORTector Gen 3 and Gen 3+ cases for the future releases from crowetic.com.

**Xander52:** (INACTIVE) Xander helped design the 3D printed casing for the Gen 1 QORTector device. He has not been very active since Genesis but has donated to the Qortal Devfund.


===== Hardware Development =====

**Zombie (Scare Crowe/Raz):** he is the original creator of the 'Brooklyn' linux kernel for the raspberry pi 4, which is what currently powers the QORTector-KB sold at [[https://crowetic.com]]. He is the main hardware-level developer for the project. He has also recently developed a new 'headless' image for the raspberry pi 4, that will be made available in the near future.

**HFactor:** he is the developer of the soon-to-be-released QORTable (a portable Qortal installation that runs on an external SSD) and the primary contributor to the 'raspiMULLET' image that is utilized on the QORTector Gen 2 devices (non-KB) being sold at [[https://crowetic.com]]

**crowetic:** he is constantly prototyping and rebuilding systems, prototyped the QORTector Gen 2 and currently working on the Gen 3, builds laptops for sale at https://crowetic.com to support the community.
