+THIS PAGE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION... Keep in mind, the [[Qortal 101]] page has some of the same info that can be found here. In fact, it would be best to start with reading the [[Qortal 101]] page, then come back to the FAQ section of the wiki.

Since Qortal is decentralized, this is not like Facebook or some sort of centralized service where you log into a server. You will need to setup a 'node' so you can communicate with other nodes on the network. While this may seem like a daunting task, it is relatively simple (in theory). Virtually any average computer will work. First you'll need to download the CORE and UI - which are two separate downloads. Next, you'll need to double check your router settings and configure 'port forwarding' if you are able to. For those who only have wifi and no access to the router, we have a workaround for that too. Ultimately you will get your node synchronized, and then be able to take part in the network. The most important step at this point is following the [[Account Setup & Recovery]] page as you are in 100% control over your account - so we cannot assist you in recovering your account if you do not secure your account properly! Since Qortal is decentralized, this is not like Facebook or some sort of centralized service where you log into a server.  +Please note: you do NOT have to be sponsored and become a Minter in order to use the platform (other than to mint, level up your account, and be able to take part in the future Voting System which will be based on blocks minted).

-We have two different codebases: one for the CORE and one for the UI. +We have two different codebases: one for the CORE and one for the UI. At the moment, both code repositories are located on GitHub - a centralized service that Microsoft recently purchased. One of our goals, which is nearing launch, is our GitHub replacement on the Qortal Network. This solution will not only be for Qortal's codebase, but also for any other project which would like to make use of this feature: a codebase repository alternative that allows the coders complete ownership and control of their work. Qortal devs will not be able to tamper with these third party codebases in any way. Stay tuned!
 +
+The current GitHub setup for our codebases, allow for the general public to submit 'pull requests' which are then reviewed by those with 'push access'. There are certain layers of security that stretch beyond the need to articulate here as what matters most, is that we have the safeguards in place, and every soon we'll have our GitHub replacement that will provide even greater features.
