How To Make A Cold Wallet

Cold wallets are hardware devices that store your 'crypto' offline as opposed to a 'hot wallet' which has an active connection to the Internet. Safety-wise, cold wallets are considered the best option - since they are always offline, which means that a hacker would not be able to steal your 'crypto'. This is totally optional and only for those who feel a need to safely store offline. The ultimate way to create a cold wallet, is to use a computer that is not connected to the Qortal Network. In this guide, we will be making the cold wallet from a computer that does not have the Qortal core and UI installed:

  1. Download the user interface (UI) on your computer (not the core).
  2. Create your account, save your backup file (your password encrypted private key) to a USB thumb drive or whatever hardware you choose to use.
  3. Write down your address before closing the UI.
  4. You can now uninstall the user interface (UI).
  5. You will not see your address in the block explorer until the transaction is completed. Send a small amount of coin to your cold wallet address, to make sure the transaction went through and your address is displayed in the block explorer.

Your cold wallet is ready! You can now send coin to this address whenever you please.
