Launch Phases

UPDATE: To no surprise with such a massive project and all sorts of hurdles, things have not gone as planned or been picture perfect. As a result the below information is more more of a target idea we've envisioned. More so referring to having basic trade functions and voting in place with Phase 1. Basic BTC-QORT trade functions were launched in Phase 2 but were too costly and slow. LTC was implemented in replacement of BTC for trades, where BTC trades were disabled and BTC wallets remained live. BTC has since been added back to the Trade Portal! Voting system has not been launched in Phases 1 or 2, and was expected to be the next big development after Phase 3 with public data hosting. Unfortunately, the voting system has been delayed further, as the network has some bad actors who are self-sponsoring accounts and/or selling accounts to game our system. Because of this, the development team is working on solutions to combat the gaming before the voting system is completed. We do not want a system governed by man, but by the codebase itself. Therefore, the development team is working on a system that will penalize accounts for gaming. You can read more on this development on the Self Sponsor Governance page.

Below are the general launch phases originally envisioned, and are still generally the plan (but not limited to). We have implemented Pirate’s ARRR coin. When the voting system is live, the community will take part in deciding which coins we build support for, as well as projects to be built on Qortal (with their own asset).

Please go to the Qortal Status Updates (old page) for the latest news on development. Also note: the Wiki Site Updates page keeps a log of updates to the wiki for easy reference.

Launch Phases Overview

Phase 1: Network Launch, Minter Accounts with Leveling, Q-Chat, and Basic Network Functionality.

Phase 2: Trade Portal addition with at least BTC/QORT market. Implementing LTC then implementing the Voting System.

Phase 3: Data Storage, Data Nodes, Data SuperNodes, Rewards for each based on fees paid by users of the storage, and Web Hosting for client side languages.

Phase 4: Websites, Blogs, Social Media, Communication with Rewards and Levels for content creators.

Phase 5: Mesh Network, Satellite Technology, Decentralized Data Service.

Phase 1 Launch Base Features

  • QORT Coin (main platform asset)
  • Minter Shared Rewards (reward-share transactions)
  • Minting & Rewards for Securing Blockchain
  • Minter Creation via ‘Sponsorship’
  • Leveling for Minters
  • Custom Web Based UI Platform
  • Simple Account Creation
  • Secure Access Through Local or Hosted Nodes
  • Q-Chat P2P Messaging!
  • Q-Chat Groups

Phase 2 Trade Portal

LTC trades are LIVE. Updates in Qortal take place automatically (auto-update feature is another feature that is unique to Qortal). Update: BTC, LTC, DOGE, RVN, and DGB are LIVE in both Trade Portal and wallets as this time. Read more here: Trade Portal Overview

Phase 3 Data Hosting

Phase 3 became the launch of the Qortal Data Network (QDN) where individuals can host their own data as a ‘data node’ (including hosting a website with limitations). Data storage services (cloud hosting) are not live yet, where nodes can offer encrypted storage space to the public. Read more here: QORT Data Hosting Model

Phase 4 Q-Apps

Q-Apps will allow any project to build on Qortal freely (excluding projects needing their own asset - this will require DevTeam review and submitting a summary of why they approve so the community can cast their votes to approve). Read more here: Voting System Overview. Qortal will demonstrate the capabilities of this technology with 1) a YouTube type replacement, 2) GitHub code repo type replacement (Qortal’s code will soon be stored on QDN and no longer on GitHub), 3) evolving Q-Chat into a Telegram type replacement along with a mobile app, and 4) a blog application where readers can vote on the content and increase the content creator’s level to receive larger rewards and higher influence. This also needs more thought for the details of the system as far as where rewards will come from/counterparts. Modification of block rewards may be necessary during this phase. Read more here: Q-Apps

Phase 5 Mesh Network

Internet data service that is truly decentralized and utilizes mesh network and satellite technology to connect the world! To be discussed! Read more here: Mesh Networking
